Paul Auster is an American author whose career has traversed fiction, memoir, screenwriting, poetry, translation, and criticism. Known for his breakout 1987 New York Trilogy, Auster has tackled magical realism, romance, detective fiction, absurdism, and a French-philosophy-inspired spare intellectualism; one might say he has range. The New York Times called his 2009 novel, Invisible, “contemporary American writing at its best…the illusion of effortless that comes only with fierce discipline.” His forthcoming book 4 3 2 1 will be published in January 2017.
