The Queens College MFA in Creative Writing and Translation is proud to present translator, poet, Czar of the ever-wonderful Ugly Duckling Presse Matvei Yankelevich in reading.

This will all take place in the Godwin-Ternbach Museum (in Klapper Hall) on the Queens College campus (65-30 Kissena Blvd.) starting at 6:30PM. A small reception, including a book signing, will follow in the lobby.

Fancy bio:

Matvei Yankelevich is the author of the poetry collection Alpha Donut (United Artists Books) and the novella-in-fragments Boris by the Sea (Octopus Books), and the translator of Today I Wrote Nothing: The Selected Writings of Daniil Kharms (Overlook/Ardis). He is one of the founding editors of Ugly Duckling Presse, where he curates the Eastern European Poets Series. A grant of $25,000 was awarded to Yankelevich to support the translation from the Russian of selected, multi-genre works by Elena Guro. In her short lifetime, Guro (1877-1913) became one of the most influential Russian avant-garde female writers and artists who wrote during what is now called the Russian Silver Age, yet she is practically unknown to English-language readers. This project will collect her prose, diaries, critical notes, and correspondence into a single text.
